Whistleblowers Sue Former Employer for Discrimination
Two hospital nurses acting as whistleblowers decided to sue their previous employer in Kansas after they reported on a coworker’s allegedly unethical practices. When the two nurses came forward to their employer, a large hospital, and discussed a resident doctor’s habit of selling cheap drugs at a higher price to customers, they were qualified as whistleblowers and let go from the company entirely. Since then, the two nurses have been actively seeking employment without any success, unable to obtain work that they are qualified for. A professional with experience in job placement difficulties for whistleblowers was sought to comment on the case.
Question(s) For Expert Witness
1. Are you familiar with how difficult it may be to get a job in the same field as a whistleblower, and can you explain why you are qualified to review this matter?
Expert Witness Response E-008063
I have spoken and published extensively on issues relating to terminations and retaliation. I think that you need two experts; I can speak to employment practices, while another could discuss damages and mitigation in job placement. I have previously worked with similar cases of employee termination, testifying about whether the employer acted in accordance with the best practices and industry standards.
