It is alleged that the boy was not expelled from the program because the school had special relations with his family. Sexual abuse is associated with an increased risk of future depression, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and general maladjustment. Adolescents and adults abused as children are more likely to have marital problems, to be hospitalized for psychiatric problems, and to require psychiatric treatment. Even a single instance of abuse is associated with increased risks of this nature.
