Migrating Essure Device Prompts Severe Medical Complications
A woman who underwent the Essure procedure decided to file suit against her gynecologist after the coil migrated from her Fallopian Tubes to her abdomen. Though the patient’s follow-up exam to confirm the device was situated correctly had been normal, she began to experience abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. She subsequently underwent an X-ray of her lower back and discovered that one of the Essure coils had moved into her abdomen. The patient was quickly taken into surgery, but continued to suffer from abdominal pain. Her treating physician expressed concern that there may be long-term sequelae from polymer resin fibers breaking off from the coil. A professional knowledgable of Essure implants was needed to testify on the potential complications and necessary precautions of the procedure.

I perform Essure and have not seen this complication occur before, nor have I seen another doctor’s case on the matter. The claim of negligence here seems definitely possible.
