This case involves an electronics manufacturer that was accused of knowingly selling defective products. The manufacturer had just released an updated version of one of their premier products and received thousands of complaints that the products would start to smoke or even explode if turned on for too long. An expert statistician familiar with analyzing warranty claims data was sought to perform a regression analysis to better assess trends in the data and correlations between the results and the alleged product defects.
