This case involves criminal charges against an engineer who attempted to leak sensitive documents using the U.S. military’s tactical aircrafts. The engineer packed and shipped a number of boxes with manuals containing proprietary information internationally. Authorities arrested the defendant while he was boarding his flight and seized the boxes alleging the documents were sensitive plans for some of the military’s latest technologies. The defendant contended that these manuals were for a limited purpose and denied any intent or desire for the recipients to build military engines. The defense claimed that the manuals were outdated with little value in the present. An expert in military jet engines was sought to examine the manuals and determine if they were beneficial to the recipients.
