Dr. Shawn Safford, MD

Dr. Shawn Safford, MD has 15 years of experience in the field of pediatric surgery. After earning his BS in molecular and cellular biology and his MS in applied statistics from Pennsylvania State University, he received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from George Washington University. He completed a residency in general surgery at the Duke University Medical Center and a prestigious fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Today, this expert is board certified in general surgery and pediatric surgery. He is active in his field as a member of numerous professional societies, including the Pediatric Trauma Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Surgery, the American Pediatric Surgeons Association, and the American College of Surgeons. He has also published and presented extensively on topics related to pediatric surgery. This expert previously was chief of pediatric surgery at both the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Carilion Clinic Children's and an associate professor of surgery and vice-chair of research at the Virginia Tech School of Medicine.
