Dr. Ryan Merkow, MD

Dr. Ryan Merkow, MD is board certified with five years of experience in the field of surgical oncology, general surgery, and robotic surgery. He obtained his BS in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin and MS in health services and outcomes research from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Then he completed his MD and surgical residency at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, followed by another surgical residency at the University of Chicago. He also did a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. This expert is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, Association for Academic Surgery, American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. This specialist has co-authored six book chapters, five books, and 76 abstracts, participated in 142 peer-reviewed investigations, and was invited to 28 presentations on complex general surgical oncology. Presently, he is an editorial board member for various journal associations and committees. He formerly worked as a resident education coordinator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His clinical practice focuses on complex upper gastrointestinal malignancies including pancreas, liver, biliary, gastric, small bowel, metastatic colorectal as well as peritoneal surface cancers. Currently, he is working as a quality medical director of the surgery ward and co-chair of the clinical integration system for gastrointestinal cancer at a medical center. This specialist also serves as an assistant professor of surgery at a children’s hospital, teaching education coordinator of the surgical oncology division at a medical school, and surgical skills lab faculty instructor at a university in Illinois.
