Dr. Matthew State, MD, PhD

Dr. Matthew W. State has 28 years of experience in the field of Psychiatry and Neurology with expertise in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He earned his BA in Political Science from Stanford University, his MD from Stanford University School of Medicine, and his MPhil and PhD in Genetics from Yale School of Medicine. After completing his residency in Psychiatry, he went on to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. Today, this expert is board certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Formerly, this expert held roles as the Donald J. Cohen Professor in the Department of Child Psychiatry, Psychiatry, and Genetics and as the Co-Director of the Program on Neurogenetics at Yale School of Medicine. Currently, he serves as the Chair and Oberndorf Family Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, as the Senior Vice President of Behavioral Health at UCSF Health, and as the President of UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics. He also works as the Principal Investigator of the State Lab at the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, as the Director of the Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute at the University of California, San Francisco, and as the Executive Director of Psychiatry at the UCSF Child, Teen and Family Center.
