Dr. Kathryn Rugen

Dr. Kathryn Rugen has extensive experience in the field of nursing, including in both clinical and teaching settings. She completed her BS in nursing at Marquette University, MS in nursing at Loyola University, Chicago, and her PhD in nursing science at Rush University. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner, neuroscience registered nurse, and critical care registered nurse. In addition, she is licensed as an advanced practice nurse and in advanced practice controlled substances. This expert is a member of a number of professional societies including the Association of Post-Graduate APRN Programs, American Academy of Nursing, American Nurses Association, and American Association of Nurse Practitioners, among others. She formerly served as a staff nurse in the neurosurgical ICU and as a neurosciences/spinal cord injury clinical nurse specialist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She also worked as a nurse manager in the neurosurgical ICU and as a clinical assistant professor of nursing at the University of Chicago. Additionally, this expert was an education program specialist at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center where she also served as the associate chief nurse of education and research. Currently, she serves as a nurse practitioner at a VA medical center in Illinois, a clinical associate professor of nursing at a university, and as the program manager of nursing services for a Veteran's Affairs department out of Washington, D.C.
