Dr. Karuna Dewan, MD

Dr. Karuna Dewan, MD has extensive experience in the field of laryngology, specializing in surgeries for swallowing, speaking, and breathing disorders. She received both her BA in biology and her MD from Northwestern University. She then went on to complete two residencies in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, the first at Baylor College of Medicine and then the second at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She then went to UCLA School of Medicine for laryngology. Today, she is board certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. She has a particular interest in the surgical management of dysphagia, rehabilitation after total laryngectomy, and the treatment of chronic cough. She has authored book chapters, a textbook, and peer-reviewed papers, and continues to conduct clinical research in these areas. Formerly, she served as a clinical instructor in laryngology at UCLA School of Medicine. Until August 2021, she served as an assistant professor of laryngology in the department of otolaryngology/ head and neck surgery at Stanford University and as a laryngologist at Stanford Health and Stanford Health’s Swallowing Disorders Center. Currently, she serves as an assistant professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at a major university in Louisiana and the director of a center of voice, airway, and swallowing at their affiliated medical center.
