Expert Qualifications

This highly-qualified expert has nearly 20 years of experience in the field of forensic chemistry, with his work focusing on the analysis of alcohol, tobacco, controlled substances, and trace evidence such as fire debris, explosives, fibers, paint, and glass. He received his BA in chemistry from Gustavus Adolphus College before earning both his MS in criminal justice and his PhD in analytical chemistry from Michigan State University. He actively participates in continuing education to stay up to date on the latest practices in the field. This expert is active in his field as a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and the Council of Forensic Science Educators. He is also highly involved in research, serving as the principal investigator for over 10 grant-funded forensic chemistry studies. He has authored numerous publications, serves as a peer reviewer for several chemistry journals, and frequently presents as an invited lecturer at conferences. He has formerly served as a forensic chemist for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, as well as an assistant professor of chemistry and chemical biology and the graduate coordinator of the forensic and investigative sciences program at Indiana University. Currently, this expert serves as the associate director of forensic and investigative sciences, as well as an associate professor of chemistry and chemical biology, at a distinguished university in Indiana.
