Mechanical Engineering Expert Witnesses in Utah

This expert has over 20 of wide-ranging engineering experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University. He has held roles at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico working on earth penetration weapons research and other advanced weapon concepts as well as a leading a hydrokinetic marine turbine manufacturing company. Currently, he is a principal of a roller coaster and amusement ride design consultancy firm. He has been involved in the design of numerous roller coasters and other amusement rides. Prior to forming this consultancy, he served as Chief Engineer for S&S Power, one of the largest and most innovative amusement ride manufacturers in the world. He can speak to finite element analysis, dynamic systems analysis, mechanical design, launch systems, coaster train design, restraint design, pneumatics, hydraulics, data acquisition, data analysis, technical project management, specialty computer programming, and testing in the amusement industry.

This expert is a full professor of Mechanical Engineering at a prominent university in the Western US. He received his PhD in Welding and Materials Engineering from The Ohio State University. Prior to joining academia, he worked as a research assistant at Edison Welding Institute and as a materials engineer at Westinghouse-Power Generation. His research interests are in the area of materials joining, materials characterization, and the relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties.

This expert has extensive experience in the amusement ride industry. He earned his BS in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Utah State University. He is a licensed structural engineer and professional engineer. He was the engineer of record for two notable commercial amusement rides and has experience in material handling and structural design. Currently, he is the president of an engineering design company that designs amusement park rides.

This highly-qualified expert has extensive experience in industrial and recreational fall protection, as well as the design and manufacturing of personal protective equipment for recreational activities such as rock climbing and mountaineering. He earned his BS in mechanical engineering from Widener University and is certified as a climbing wall instructor program provider and a high angle and confined space rescue technician. He is also Level III with the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians. This expert is active in his field as a member of the Climbing Wall Association, the American National Standards Institute's Fall Protection Committee, and the American Mountain Guides Association. He has formerly served as a mechanical engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, the senior research engineer for the Harold K. Dunn M.D. Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, and the technical director for Petzl America.
