For the past 10 years during his PhD and Post-Doctoral training, he has investigated viral-host interactions that regulate HCV viral replication through the activation of intracellular innate immune response. In recent years, he has focused on understanding how host cell innate immune pathways sense HCV infection and initiate the host response which involves type I interferon and proinflammatory cytokine production to regulate hepatic immunity. After a recent transition to an independent faculty position, his laboratory continues to investigate virus-host interactions that regulates disease outcome and pathogenesis of HCV infection. He has extensive expertise and skills in virology, cell signaling, cytokine biology, and cell biology. His role as a physician specializing in the care of viral hepatitis at an academic medical center offers the unique integration of basic science and clinical/translational science into the laboratory research program.
