He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in Physics from Georgia Tech and is highly regarded in his field. He is currently the Principal of a mechanical engineering firm that investigates industrial steam accidents, provides consulting to operators of high pressure steam systems experiencing water hammer, and provides seminars to operators and engineers on understanding water hammer in steam systems.

This expert has 25+ years of law enforcement experience, for the vast majority of which he served as a fire investigator for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. A certified fire investigator with both the ATF and the International Association of Arson Investigators, he has consulted for police forces in countries such as Colombia and Latvia on arson investigation practices. Since 2014, he has operated an independent fire investigation consultancy.

This expert obtained his BA in Enviromental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, his MS in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D from the University of Washington. He has conducted more than 1,500 investigations of serious and fatal vessel and vehicle accidents, and of crimes against persons and property. He is currently a Senior Advisor at a global security and intelligence consulting firm.
