In recent years, he has focused on understanding how host cell innate immune pathways sense HCV infection and initiate the host response which involves type I interferon and proinflammatory cytokine production to regulate hepatic immunity. After a recent transition to an independent faculty position, his laboratory continues to investigate virus-host interactions that regulates disease outcome and pathogenesis of HCV infection. He has extensive expertise and skills in virology, cell signaling, cytokine biology, and cell biology. His role as a physician specializing in the care of viral hepatitis at an academic medical center offers the unique integration of basic science and clinical/translational science into the laboratory research program.
